The third quarterly newsletter presents topics related to human rights about five fundamental subjects: the right to life, the right to integrity, the right to freedom, vulnerable groups, and the journalists' and human rights defenders’ situation.

Digital Publication Memoirs No. 3

Between May 11 and 20, 2020, approximately 176 events of public relevance were recorded, which have had a positive or negative impact on human rights. Afterwards, brief reflections are made, pointing out the concerns and opportunities that may arise around such events from a human rights perspective.

This newsletter develops topics related to the rights to life, liberty, integrity, and the emergency situation by Covid-19. The topics are structures dedicated to extermination, violent deaths, femicides, the disappearance of people, the situation of the prison population, abuses of force, and forced displacement.

In this issue, 181 events of public relevance that have an impact on human rights are recorded. In addition, on this occasion, an annex section has been added, which contains a list of regulatory acts issued in relation to the pandemic, between January 1 and May 10, 2020, which have been published in the Official Journal.

OUDH. Annual Report 2021. Executive Summary.

The 2021 Annual Report is the third document of this nature prepared by the University’s Observatory of Human Rights (OUDH). The Report gives priority to five rights as a study subject: the rights to life, to physical and mental integrity, to personal liberty, to justice and the victims’ right to an integral reparation.

The 2020 Annual Report studies various issues related to the right to life, the right to physical and mental integrity, the right to personal freedom, the right to access justice and the right to integral reparations for victims. The 2020 Annual Report concludes that, in 2020, a negative general balance is observed, with regard to the human rights situation in El Salvador.

This report pretends to evidence the development of extrajudicial killings in El Salvador, and the response to them from the authorities. Through the compilation of data from different sources, it shows how transgressions to the right to life, made by state agents, are a recent issue, and not exclusive to the past.

Executive Summary - Special report on the Human Rights situation in the context of Covid-19 emergency

The report studies various issues that occurred within of the COVID-19 emergency that had an impact on the human rights situation in El Salvador. It also addresses the illegal and arbitrary detentions, the situation in containment facilities, and misuse of the force performed by public security agents. The report also analyzes measures taken by the government’s Branches.
